This role is essential for ensuring the highest quality of asphalt materials used in transportation infrastructure projects across Canada.

In this position, you will take charge of laboratory operations, from sample preparation and execution of complex tests to interpretation of results and recommendation of mix optimizations. Your work will directly contribute to sustainable and durable road networks by validating material performance under simulated traffic and environmental conditions.

Core Responsibilities:

• Perform a wide range of asphalt tests including gradation analysis, asphalt content determination, density, voids, and stability
• Design and validate asphalt mixes for hot mix, warm mix, and reclaimed asphalt pavement applications
• Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to clients and project stakeholders
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure calibration, and adhere to quality management systems (ISO 17025)
• Stay updated on emerging technologies in asphalt binders, modifiers, and recycling techniques
• Support field investigations and quality assurance during construction phases

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
• Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in asphalt laboratory testing and mix design
• Proficiency with testing equipment such as Marshall stability testers, Superpave gyratory compactors, and ignition ovens
• In-depth knowledge of industry standards including ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, and Ontario Ministry of Transportation specifications
• Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, LabVIEW)
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
• Ability to mentor junior technicians and collaborate with engineering teams
• Valid driver's license and ability to work in a lab/field environment
